About: The dramatic coastline of Lands End is a draw for the thousand of tourists that flock here every year but the area is also a danger for shipping. The Longships lighthouse was built on Carn Bras, the highest of the small islands of the Longships Rocks in 1791. Despite this the light was often obscured in heavy weather so the present taller lighthouse was built from granite blocks in 1875. Its light, which shines every ten seconds, can be seen from nineteen miles away.
