About: This photograph was taken early last month before the headgear at Mount Wellington Mine was removed. The owner insisted that the reason was that of safety.
It is unfortunate that the County Council was unable or unwilling to save it. The modern remnants of the mining in Cornwall are equally as important as the older sites. Many of the older 19th century sites are part of the World Heritage bid currently being decided upon.
It seem entirely possible that only Geevor in Pendeen might remain as an example of the later stages of mining in Cornwall.
