Crowdy reservoir has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The place is popular with birdwatchers who will not be disappointed at this moorland lake. The banks, except those by the Nature Reserve, are open for walking and picnicking, but there is no formal picnic area. There is a bird hide in the wooded area but there are no other activities that take place on the water because of the high conservation value at this location.
