Between Welcombe and Marsland is a large nature reserve that borders the Marsland Valley and the boundary between Devon and Cornwall It is a site of special scientific interest and a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. This area is home to wildlife such as red deer, otters and buzzards and is of particular interest because of the variety of butterflies in summer.
