Up until the 19th century the pub at North Hill was the Ring of Bells and then it changed to become the Rodd Arms. Following a drunken orgy a man returning from the pub was thrown from his horse and trap and killed, this led to the Rodd family closing the pub and North Hill was without a watering hole until 1965 when the Racehorse was opened.
