The mines of Wheal Grenville lie to the southeast of Camborne at Toon on the western extremity of the Great Flat Lode. The jagged appearance of the chimney at Fortescue's Engine house is due to damage caused by a lightning strike in July 1897 the shaft itself is 2370 feet (395 fathoms) deep.
