Sea Shanties were shipboard working songs that served a practical purpose because the rhythm of the song served to synchronize the movements of the sailors as they toiled at repetitive tasks. Of course the sailors would have enjoyed their communal singing as it is fun to listen and join in and this would help the boredom of everyday tasks.
