The Western Morning News recently carried the story of Arnold, a St Bernard-mastiff cross that followed another dog down the 136 steps to Whipsiderry beach but was too old and rather large to get back up. The RLNI crew had to use an inshore lifeboat to save Arnold it took six Newquay lifeboat men and coastguards who used a fishing net to transfer the somewhat grumpy dog into the lifeboat. He was then ferried to Porth Beach where his very relieved owner could take him to safety
