Place: Portreath | Category: Harbours and Ports | Photograph Added: 23rd January 2008
Early evening at Portreath harbour on a windy day when the sea was fairly rough shows how calm the inner harbour can be. The harbour at Portreath began construction in about 1760 and in 1827 it was described as perhaps Cornwall's most important port. Both the Portreath Tramroad and the Portreath branch of the Hayle Railway at one time linked the mines in the Camborne, Redruth and Gwennap Mining Districts with this port.
