Godrevy is located near Hayle on the B3301, it is a wonderful mix of long sandy beaches, high cliffs and coves. The beach is great for swimmers or surfers and for those who prefer to stay out of the water the coast-path walking is superb. The grassy sand dunes and gorse scrub form part of the large expanse of sand dunes that cover almost three miles between Godrevy and Gwithian and Upton Towans. The dunes and grassland are exceptionally rich in wildlife supporting many rare plants and insects including Stonechants, grayling butterflies and other specialist invertebrates.
Godrevy lighthouse was immortalised by Virginia Woolf as this was the inspiration for her book aptly named 'To The Lighthouse'. The lighthouse itself was built in 1858 and the light first shone in 1859 it was constructed to warn ships about 'The Stones' a reef stretching offshore of Cornwall for one and a half miles.
Located to the right hand side of the Red River is a rocky beach which is renowned for its good surfing conditions but there is a strong current present between the beach and Godrevy Island and this area is only suitable for experienced surfers.
There is a lifeguard presence on the beach in the holiday season and a wooden-built Cafe where it is possible to dine on an upstairs balcony and enjoy local fare while watching the panoramic view of the bay.
